California has no shortage of place to ride, but If you find yourself somewhere way east of San Francisco with a dirt bike or a dual sport, you’ll want to check out the Carnegie SRVA. The Carnegie SRVA site has the best description of what you’ll find there.
“This off-highway recreation area has challenging hill-type trail riding, hill-climbs and a professionally designed motocross track available. Elevations are up to 1,800 feet. It is a motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle, and (limited) four-wheel drive area.The park also has a four wheel drive obstacle course and a Observed Trials area.”
Because this is geared toward all kinds of off-road vehicles, expect to find everything from kids on 50cc bikes to adults in side-by-sides. But everyone knows to share the trails and there’s enough to go around and challenge even the most experienced rider. In the summer, the hills are brown and the trails dusty. In the spring and winter, it’s a crap shoot – mud varies depending on the frequency of rain, which has been pretty damn frequent this winter so far. Fees are cheap – $5 a day parking or $10 if you want to stay the night.
You’re on your own when it comes to food, though. Plenty of covered picnic tables for shade, and you’ll need it in the summer, because temps can get over 100. So bring plenty of water, too.
