No toolkit is complete without a multitool. And when it comes to multitools, there are really only three manufacturers worthy of consideration – Gerber, Leatherman and Victorinox. You can find others that are cheaper, but these three have some of the widest variety and best made products on the market.

Leatherman is considered by some to be the better made of the three. How do we know? Because we dug up a review by Popular Mechanics that said so! Of five different multitools made by all three aforementioned companies, the Leatherman Wave ($90) came out on top in the PM review.

Here’s what the Wave offers:

  • Needlenose Pliers
  • Regular Pliers
  • Hard-wire Cutters
  • Wire Cutters
  • Wire Stripper
  • 420HC Knife
  • 420HC Serrated Knife
  • Saw
  • Spring-action Scissors
  • Ruler (8 in | 19 cm)
  • Can Opener
  • Bottle Opener
  • Wood/Metal File
  • Diamond-coated File
  • Large Bit Driver
  • Small Bit Driver
  • Medium Screwdriver

Looks like a pretty complete kit to us, and all that in a tool that can fit inside a jacket pocket.
