Texas got way more than its fair share of rain this year. That means water was running where it normally doesn’t, flowers blooming when they typically don’t, and that means a more to look at. Time to ride the Lone Star State!

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 2.53.49 PMA friend of ours just told us about this great ride in the southwestern part of the state that sounds pretty near perfect. You start in Ft. Davis — five and a half hours west of San Antonio or six and a half from Austin. From there you’ll head south on 17 to Presidio where you’ll then head east along the Rio Grande River on 170 through Terlingua to Big Bend Resorts & Adventures where you’ll then head north on 118 until you get to Alpine. If you start in Alpine and go the opposite direction, you’ll be about thirty minutes closer to either San Antonio or Austin.

This route goes through Big Bend National Park, one of the least visited national parks in the country. You’ll get a good mix of sweepers and twisties during the 150 mile ride, but not have to worry too much about hitting a lot of tourist traffice. Here’s a little taste of what you can expect.
