We’ve been so busy getting back on the road and testing new gear that we haven’t been able to do much to research new routes and trails. So we turned to our friends at EatSleepRide and found this out and back route of about 180 miles going from Virginia Beach to Hatteras Island in North Carolina. Here’s the description:
“From Virginia Beach go to MacKay Island National Wildlife Refuge then redirect to Hwy 168 before merging onto Hwy158 across the Wright Memorial Bridge. From here, you’ll enter into an entirely different landscape of sand dunes traversing the coastline of North Carolina along Hwy 12 linking the peninsulas and islands of the northern Outer Banks.
Although this is a relatively straight route, riding along the ocean peninsula is a unique experience. Be ready for the strong winds for 76 miles (122 km) there and back on Hwy 12. Landmarks worth seeing include the Bodie Island Lighthouse and Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum (Free, 59200 Museum Dr, Open Mon-Sat 10am to 4pm) located at the very southern tip of the motorcycle route.”
Hey, if there’s no traffic and no law enforcement could be a good stretch to get in some wheelies and stoppies! Route map included for your convenience.
