For those of us who can still get out and ride…and those of you who still do no matter how freakin’ cold, rainy, snowy or windy it might be…your windshield is a wonderful thing. So protecting it and keeping it free of scratches is necessary maintenance. But it doesn’t have to be a time suck. Here are a few tips thanks to The Total Motorcycle Manual.
Keep it in the shade: the sun is the enemy of paint and plastic. So keep your bike covered or at least the windshield. If you don’t have a garage or some other way to keep the bike out of the sun, buy a bike cover with a soft cloth lining to it doesn’t scratch any of your bike’s surfaces – especially the windshield. Another option is to put a clean towel over your windshield before covering your bike.
Keep it clean: Warm water and a drop or two of mild soap after each ride does the trick. If you’ve got more than a few bugs and dirt, soak a large bath towel in warm water, put it over the windshield, and wait 10 minutes. That should loosen up all of the gunk so you can wipe without scratching anything. If you have to scrub, use a soft towel — clean cotton or microfiber.
