Last week, we did a story about Phil Anderson, a former flat tracker who now teaches a dirt bike safety course. We thought it only fitting that we should followup this week with his current bike pictured above. This street legal, small displacement, supermoto was out of the Suzuki lineup for a few years, but they brought it back in 2013.

While you can push it over 85, you’ll feel it in a few minutes — it’s just not built to do much more. So don’t expect to use it as a daily commuter unless a long stint on the freeway is not part of your daily commute. But if a few dirt backroads and some twisties are in the mix, this might be worth the $7189 MSRP you’ll fork over to have some options to and from work.

This carbureted, liquid-cooled thumper kicks out somewhere around 31-34 plus horsepower and 23-25+ ft.lbs of torque. The fun quotient is the biggest draw. Tom Roderick, editor at, had this to say, “With the 400SM, the insurance cost/fun factor ratio is a value not many street-legal motorcycles can touch.”
